Deadpool 2 Movie Review (2018) | Belittles Cable, Humorous Nevertheless

Everything you expect it to be! Deadpool 2 movie is high voltage humour, witty comebacks with excruciating gore. The only problem being, in achieving its Marvel-ous targets, it ends up condescending one of the most badass Marvel characters that was ever created by comics – Cable.

You put anything serious against Deadpool and he lances it with his humor sword. That’s how it is! The reason why the Deadpool 2 movie feels unjust to the character even though Josh Brolin does Cable apt justice with his looks. All that seriousness that he had implanted in our heads with a ravishing performance as Thanos in Infinity Wars, unfortunately, ends up getting belittled here. It is disparaging to a hero we were looking forward to watching.

There’s trouble brewing in its editing department too which speeds up the movie unnecessarily prancing towards an act. Then there is that impoverished CGI of Juggernaut which makes you question why didn’t we go with an actual human being like we did in X2? Or at least upped it a bit so it looked more badass like Thanos or even Hulk for that to matter.

If you are fine with such apparent issues and wish to watch DP make fun of everybody, you will not be let down. He will make sure you have a blast. Humour is simply outrageous!

Plot of Deadpool 2 Movie (Spoilers)

To form its plot we find Deadpool failing to kill a mercenary who ends up shooting his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). The whole world loses its meaning for him as he is rendered without a purpose. DP wishes to not live in it. But unfortunately, he can’t die! He tries it several times but it’s like a curse that compels him to keep on surviving without her.

After being blown up to pieces, he visits Vanessa in the afterlife for a short time before he is brought back to life. He is rejoined by Colossus as he wakes up in the X-mansion. The only thing he has with him from her is a Skee-Ball token to remember her by.

Listen to the pain. It’s both history teacher and fortune teller. Pain teaches us who we are, Wade. Sometimes it’s so bad we feel like we are dying, but we can’t really live until we die a little, can we?

Considering it as a part of his healing, he joins the X-men only to be summoned on his first mission that he ends up messing up. Meet Firefist a.k.a. Russell Collins (Julian Dennison) who is yet another mutant kid being tortured by science experiments. This time the torturer is a Headmaster (Eddie Marsan) of Mutant Reeducation Center. On realizing that the Headmaster has been abusing lil Rusty boy, Deadpool shoots one of their staff members.

deadpool 2 movie firefist

Owing to his actions both Deadpool and Rusty are immediately apprehended and taken to a prison after being put on a collar that suppresses mutant powers.

With this collar on, my superpower is just unbridled cancer. Give me a bow and arrow and I am basically Hawkeye.

Cable

Incoming Cable! A cybernetic soldier from future travels back in time to kill Rusty up young before he ever becomes a killer, for an older version of Rusty had killed Cable’s family in the future. Wade Wilson tries to save Rusty intervening and manages to. Rusty overhears Deadpool’s claim that he doesn’t care for him as Cable takes Vanessa’s token.

You are so dark. Are you sure you are not from the DC universe?

Afterlife revisited, Wade comes across Vanessa who asks him to save Collins. All those conversations are more like Wade talking with his own subconsciousness, doing the right thing, finding himself a purpose and the will to go on.

In a world where teaming up is a primal necessity, Deadpool decides to form his own team.

You know what we need to do? We need to build a fucking team. We need ’em tough, morally flexible, and young enough so they can carry this franchise 10-12 years.

Thus X-Force is created with a team of unusual superheroes. The big joke lies in the fact that nobody makes it except Domino.

 Zip it, Thanos!

As DP and Domino try to save the kid from Cable’s wrath, little did they know that Rusty had already teamed up with *drum rolls* the Juggernaut. He literally splits Deadpool in half as Rusty takes him with him to get revenge on the Headmaster.

Yet Another Team

Growing his legs and chilling at his house, Deadpool is visited by Cable who explains his situation to him, that he wishes to kill Rusty before his first murder. DP volunteers for a chance to be able to stop him from going to the dark side before murdering a poor confused child.

Cable: I use a device to slide through time. The longer I travel, the harder it is to control. I got two charges: One to get me here, one to get me home.

Deadpool: Well, that’s just lazy writing!

Back at the orphanage the team goes to war with the Juggernaut, as Rusty closes in on the Headmaster. Before Cable is about to kill Rusty, Deadpool takes the shot instead, wearing the collar that takes all his mutant powers away. He meets Vanessa in the afterlife yet again but the reunion is short-lived as Cable goes back in time to plant Vanessa’s token on the exact spot where the bullet had hit him.

Only best buddies execute pedophiles together.

Thus Wade survives, Rusty has a change of heart but the Headmaster dies as Dopinder (Karan Soni), Wade’s taxi driver friend, rams his taxi into him.

Firefist: How do you know what I want?

Deadpool: Because I have been inside you. That came out wrong. I have been inside your shoes, which is also off-putting.

There is literally no reason and zero bro-chemistry for Cable to choose Deadpool over his family. That’s one big plot hole that you can’t get over. David Leitch has still a lot to learn about drama.

No End Credit Scene

The flick doesn’t have an end credit scene so sitting all the way to the end didn’t prove fruitful. Although there’s a mid-credit sequence wherein Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend Yukio help Deadpool repair Cable’s time slider which he then uses to save Vanessa and Peter (Rob Delaney), kill X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds while he was considering becoming the Green Lantern.

Things to watch out for in Deadpool 2 movie, I would say is the character of Domino. She has the superpower of being lucky. How cool is that! Domino proves exactly why she is so awesome as she narrowly escapes life-threatening situations without having to lift a finger. The way situations align themselves as per her pleasing will draw out a smile of you.

Luck isn’t a superpower. And it isn’t cinematic!

The Final Verdict

Deadpool 2 movie is no doubt great when its sole aim is to entertain you. It scores very high points in that department, yes. But if you try to focus on what all story it wishes to tell you, you realize it becomes quite bland in right about everything. You wished Cable to be badass but he ends up becoming not that great. You wanted Juggernaut to be memorable, you can’t see past that awful CGI. Hell! DP is so unserious that it even changes its entire plot in its credits, almost as if the movie didn’t happen.

Another thing that might be outrageous for you would be its editing. Runs too fast and through the merc’s mouth at all times. So you are never serious enough to concentrate on the plot. It’s like things keep happening, you just have to pay attention to all the non-comic bits to understand what’s really going on.

Can you see it? Do you see that beautiful bright light? There it is.

*dramatic pause*

Oh, that’s the sun. Don’t stare directly into that.

Overlook all of that, Deadpool 2 movie still has plenty of stunts to leave you mesmerized, gore aplenty that will make you cringe and humour that will tickle you till you fall off your chair. A must watch nevertheless!

Ready Player One Movie Review (2018) | Gamers Assemble!

If you are a gamer, you are going to absolutely love Ready Player One movie. Even if you are not, don’t worry, it is a spectacle for sore eyes. Will still leave you wonderstruck. The flick is a pageant of allure carefully crafted to make you feel exhilarated at every juncture. Built on a gaming spindle, it’s a wild joyride that should not be missed for the world.

Steven Spielberg weaves a deserving film to an extraordinary story written by Ernest Kline. Who doesn’t dream of living under a different skin, of being someone else? Ready Player One movie channels that fantasy in the form of OASIS, a place where you get to be someone else. How cool is that!

Theme and Direction

Built on the concept of VR, that teleports you into a different world (the one that doesn’t suck), you can be whatever you want to be. Just imagine yourself as a creature from your favorite flick, or a character from a game or movie you loved, or simply create your very own avatar and start living it. It is as simple as that.

People come to the OASIS for all the things they can do, but they stay for all the things they can be.

Camera movements are simply next level, and you can’t help but think how much of incomprehensible work it might have undergone to ace a rad scene. The action in Ready Player One is fast-paced so much that you want to stop the whole thing for a second to go back and watch it all slowly. It’s just downright orgasmic. You feel the same amount of, or maybe more, adrenaline rush just as you do when you are playing one of your favorite games. It’s simply overwhelming and intensely satisfying.

The Plot of Ready Player One Movie (Spoilers)

Ten minutes into the movie and it is already spilling visually striking juices that are too hot to handle. You are hit by a conglomeration of characters that are out of the world, each having their own unique and specific characteristics. And such beautifully have they been put together in a single frame that you can’t help but appreciate the effort of the VFX team. How meticulously every frame has been painted!

There’s a race in the very beginning that will simply leave you in awe. It is just mind-numbing, one of those high tides that will prepare you for what’s to come. It also quickly fills you in on the story of Ready Player One Movie. James ‘Anorak’ Halliday played by Mark Rylance (Spielberg’s favorite), has placed an Easter egg in the OASIS, to be opened with three keys that are hidden. The finder is to inherit ownership and full control of OASIS.

In the form of my avatar, Anorak the all knowing. I created three keys. Three hidden challenges test worthy traits, revealing three hidden keys to three magic gates. And those with the skill to survive these strengths will reach the end, where the prize awaits.

Gunters (Egg Hunters) have completely dedicated themselves to finding the key. There is also a fully dedicated organization called IOI, headed by Nolan Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn), who has hired researchers, top gamers, and Sixers to get the job done.

First Key

So far everyone has been unsuccessful until the protagonist Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan), a 17-year-old lad, understands the first clue to figure out the whereabouts of the first key that was hidden at the very beginning of the race. It’s like a cheat code that delivers you directly to the exit. It is brilliantly thought of and pulled of.

His avatar Parzival befriends Art3mis (Olivia Cooke) when he saves her life from getting “zeroed” (a surefire death in OASIS that takes away all your avatar progress in reality) by the hands of a King Kong.

Parzival: Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it’s a simple adventure story…
Art3mis: Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

He has Aech (Lena Waithe) for a companion, whom he has never met in person but has built up an online bond with. Players Daito and Sho are also kind of like his clan. So he tells them all the clue to finding the first key as they follow suit. Together they top the scoreboard and become famous as the “High Five”.

i-R0k (T. J. Miller) is a mercenary hired by Sorrento to find out the true identity of Parzival. In an OASIS dance club, Parzival makes that task easy as he tells Art3mis his real name, in an attempt to tell her how he felt. Parzival is identified as Wade Watts by Sorrento who then tries to convince him to join IOI. When Wade refuses, Sorrento bombs his ‘stack’ with the help of F’Nale Zandor (Hannah John-Kamen) believing him to be there. In that process, Wade’s aunt dies.

Second Key

Waking up he meets Art3mis in the real world – Samantha. Together they hunt for the second key figuring out the fact that Halliday was in love with Kira, who later went on to marry Ogden Morrow (Simon Pegg), his best friend.

She wanted to go dancing, so we watched a movie.

They end up in a horrific recreation of The Shining movie where the second key is hidden. That part is absolutely stunning, almost puts you back in time and ravishes it with a twist of course. Art3mis is the one to retrieve the key.

A creator who hates his own creation. A hidden key: a leap not taken. Retrace your steps, escape your past. And the key of Jade will be yours at last.

Meanwhile, Zandor tracks Wade to the hideout but Samantha lets Wade escape allowing herself to be captured. She is turned into a Sixer for exceeding her family debt.

Wade meets all the real world avatars of Aech, Daito, and Sho and is surprised to find them all different than imagined.

She could actually be a 300 pound dude who lives in his momma’s basement in suburban Detroit. And her name is Chuck.

i-R0k meanwhile creates a force field using the Orb of Osuvox around the final key which is located on Planet Doom. Wade tricks Sorrento into revealing Samantha’s location and helps her escape. With her help, Wade invites all the OASIS players for an all-out assault against the Sixers and Sorrento. Samantha deactivates the force field suited up as a Sixer, allowing OASIS players to carry on a fully fledged attack on Sorrento’s army.

It’s fucking Chucky!

Sorrento surprises everyone with his MechaGodzilla avatar but is attacked by Daito’s avatar of Gundam. The fight is just brilliant as Art3mis is the one who puts MechaGodzilla down allowing the rebels to win. Sorrento mad as hell searches for Samantha amongst his Sixers, but she narrowly escapes when Wade zeroes her Sixer avatar and asks her to meet the team in the real.

Third Key

Parzival and Sho discover that the last key revolves around a game from Atari 2600. They find out that no matter which game the Sixers try their luck on, time expires for them. Even when a Sixer beats the game of Adventure he still loses. Pressed in a dire situation, a fight ensues between Sorrento and Parzival as the Cataclyst (a kind of bomb) zeroes everyone on the Planet Doom.

Luckily Parzival is revived with an extra life that was given to him in the form of a coin by the curator of Halliday’s museum when Parzival had won a bet against him. Eventually, Parzival figures out that the clue is not to win the game of Adventure but to find its very own Easter egg. He finds out the easter egg hidden in the Adventure game and obtains the last key.

The Ending

Anorak gives Parzival a contract to be signed which  he refuses believing it to be a test, since a similar chapter had happened in the life of Morrow when he had signed a contract that had dissolved his partnership with Halliday. Considering that decision to be the correct one, Anorak metamorphoses into Halliday providing him with the Golden Egg and declares him the winner.

I created the OASIS because I never felt at home in the real world. I just didn’t know how to connect with people there. I was afraid for all my life, right up until the day I knew my life was ending. And that was when I realized that as terrifying and painful as reality can be, it’s also the only place that you can get a decent meal. Because, reality is real.

The police arrests Sorrento and Zandor after they receive Aech’s tape that has recorded Sorrento’s conversation with Wade that had resulted in the stacks attack. Wade shares his award with the High Five hiring Morrow as his consultant, who is revealed to be the curator who had given him the coin. OASIS once again begins its operations giving Tuesdays and Thursdays off to allow people to stay more in the real world.

All the Easter Eggs

Ready Player One movie builds up itself on nostalgia as it brings to forefront characters from the past. It is like a fully loaded movie having a bazillion Easter Eggs per se. You have got to have its Blu-ray or something just to literally stop each frame to find characters hidden inside the movie.

Here’s where you can order Ready Player One movie from:

Ready Player One movie milks them all aplenty with cameos from a T-Rex, King Kong, R2-D2, X-Wings, Harley Quinn and the Joker, Chucky, Tracer, Chun-Li, Ryu, Deathstroke, El Dragon, Blanka, Battletoads, Ninja Turtles, Halo, Freddy, Jason, Batman, Mach 5, Bigfoot, DeLorean, Banzai, The Iron Giant, Battlestar Galactica, Alien, Aliens, Clark Kent, Hulk, Marvin the Martian toy, Goro, Beetlejuice and what not.

What aces them all is the recreation of The Shining. It is gory and scary, probably the most entertaining and cherishable part of the entire movie. It literally puts you inside the movie with different camera angles that Stanley Kubrick hadn’t picked. What is wonderful is that it becomes something more, and something else entirely as even more formidable elements lurk in its climax.

Aech: I’ve never seen the Shining. Is it really scary?
Sho:  I had to watch it through my fingers.

The Final Verdict

Ready Player One movie stands as an exemplary paragon of what technology can do. And if you hand over that technology to someone like Steven Spielberg, you get something entirely out of the box. If you wish to experience what gaming is all about and what it is to become in the long run, the cinema hall where this movie thrives is a perfect place to visit.

It is a movie that might not do as much justice to the book as we expect, but it does far more justice than you expect from an adaptation. Ready Player One movie gives you everything that you get when you play a really good game.

Office Christmas Party Review (2016) | Cracks You Up Good

Office Christmas Party is written in sheer fun. Josh Gordon and Will Speck’s entertainer is a movie that will crack you up at every juncture. It’s a party that would make you want to go to. It’s this contrasting placement of work with fun that makes the concept of Office Christmas Party a jovial hoot. Then again, the movie banks on its thriftless ostentation to get through but despite all the vulgarity and the bawdry, jokes still flow.

Plot of Office Christmas Party

You might think a movie like Office Christmas Party wouldn’t be having much to its plot if it’s all about showing blatant debauchery. But the movie proves you wrong the second it starts.

With awesome witty lines to bedeck its screenplay the movie chugs forward with Jason Bateman’s Josh Parker character trying to finalize his divorce. He is the Chief Technical Officer of a company called Zenotek. Olivia Munn’s character Tracey Hughes is the Head of Tech and is a girl brimming with outstanding ideas. T.J. Miller portrays Clay Vanstone, the branch manager who is as fun as he is in person. He is literally the life of the flick.

image of T.J. Miller as Clay Vanstone and Courtney B. Vance as Walter Davis in Office Christmas Party

With the devilish character Carol Vanstone played by Jennifer Aniston, who is also the intermediate CEO of Zenotek, the story dabs its first throttle. She threatens to lay off 40% of its staff, cut bonuses and to cancel the inbound Christmas Party which everybody was so psyched about. Clay wishes to fight her off by roping in a huge client, Walter Davis played by Courtney B. Vance. What follows are acts of turpitude in order to please the client to save the Zenotek branch.

Comic Orgy (Spoilers Ahead)

As the movie progresses you realize that it paces up gradually. The party moves up a notch every second. Just like alcohol. It settles in and makes you feel better. We get to see funny characters like Rob Corddry, Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Randall Park, Karan Soni and Da’Vine Joy Randolph turn on their full-blown mode.

Jillian Bell’s Trina will force you to burst into laughter.

I don’t do handshakes, I do hugs.

When you see Jesus wading through the party arms spread on a horse, or when you see a reindeer in the toilet, or when you behold Jeremy drop the thumb sitting on the Game of Thrones chair, you feel you got your money’s worth. Watch out for such bits!

Also, it’s the presence of Olivia Munn in the movie that makes it a very satisfying watch. Her eyes do most of the talking and you can’t stop yourself from falling in love with her all over again. And she gives you a smart enough reason to keep it that way.

You can pre-order Office Christmas Party from here:

The Final Verdict

Office Christmas Party has all the elements one needs to helm a movie into an entertainer. It makes you laugh uncontrollably, but then at times it is outright stupid. But the thing with comedy is that you gotta live it, enjoy the reverberation and then laugh it off.

Christmas is almost here. Go watch this lunacy!

Deadpool Review (2016)

Deadpool is here! Finally on the big screen. Our favorite antihero bags himself a movie and it has something to do with Polverine 😉 Let the fandom erupt!

It walks closely on the scales of comics although focuses on his origins more. The Vanessa Carlysle story is chosen to go with him in order to pack in the romance quotient. Writers take it all the way through. Tim Miller chooses to go with an oscillating presentation where he tries to merge up the current and the past later connecting us to the stream midway. Deadpool occasionally breaks the fourth wall for emphasis, and it does manage to pack in his comic quotient.

Action seqs are jaw dropping as the protagonist rolls midair, does impressive flips whilst performing enthralling takedowns. Gore speaks volume with the rad Deadpool guns. Heads drop, bodies get spattered, bones break and faces get battered to pulp. It is all in there just how you would have imagined it to be.

At no point in the movie does the humour stop. It is on an incessant unchecked ride that has so many Marvel and DC references that would put you in laughter fits. Watch out for Green Lantern, X-Men and Wolverine references! So many quick snappy comebacks that have been aced by Ryan Reynolds nicely. The Merc with a mouth has a flair that relates to the cool perfectly.

Other characters in the movie are great as well. Portrayals of Dopinder and Weasel go with the comedy bandwagon complementing the hilarity just fine. Whilst Ed Skrein mixes style and perversion beautifully. Stan Lee makes a cameo as usual and a hilarious post-credit scene waits for you in the end as well. Don’t miss that one!

The big downside of the movie is its plot. It weighs low on it since most of the times Deadpool is busy entertaining us with his sarcastic unceasing one-liners. Also, Negasonic Teenage Warhead gets lost in the chatter, and fails to make an impact.

But we tend to overlook all of that since it was supposed to be an entertainer anyhow.
Oh wait! Before I almost forget: “Beeeeeeeeeeeep you, Indian Censor Board!” You ruined it for us.
