The SpongeBob Movie is no different than watching SpongeBob’s animated series on TV. That being said SpongeBob fans are gonna love it! It packs in the same amount of fun with slapstick humor that sometimes wades through cheesy waters. The plot is nicely written and entirely based on juvenile fantasy. Some of the humor bits might crack you up big time. But some might leave you with a mere meh!
What was disappointing is the fact that the movie primarily sold on – “gang coming out of the water into our real world” which they failed to milk enough. It only happens during the climax of the flick at which point the humor simply dies down. Trying to blend the 3D animation with the real world did look rad at times, however the reality surrounding them seemed pretty unaffected. There was an utter disconnect that simply killed the movie then and there. I really kept hoping things to revive, but eventually the movie started dwindling into mediocrity. Shouldn’t have named it “Sponge Out of Water!”
Overall, the movie was okay. The 2D animation was top-notch and the story that they played along with it prior to them coming out of the water, was exceptional and funny. Taking that into consideration I would brand this as a one-timer. Kids are gonna love it though.
