Amazon MGM Studios and Scott Stuber’s United Artists have greenlit an untitled thriller that will star Denzel Washington and be directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
TheWrap reported on October 20 that Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner wrote the script, which follows a former police detective released from a life sentence after receiving a terminal diagnosis. The trade also reported that the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
A new collaboration for Washington and McQuarrie
The announcement pairs Washington with McQuarrie, whose directing credits include the recent Mission: Impossible films. El Séptimo Arte’s October 21 report likewise identified Washington as the lead and McQuarrie as director for the United Artists project.
With a release date already attached, the film is an early addition to Amazon MGM’s 2027 theatrical slate. For more industry updates, visit Straight From a Movie’s News index.
