The Fleetwood Mac documentary now has a title and a release date. Fleetwood Mac: The Chain will premiere globally on Apple TV on January 29, 2027, Apple announced on October 22.
Frank Marshall directs the authorized film. Apple says it brings together the perspectives of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, with interviews and previously unseen material.
What the Fleetwood Mac documentary will cover
The announcement frames the story around the musicians’ shared history from the formation of that five-person lineup in the 1970s. Its subject is not simply a catalogue of recordings: Apple describes a film concerned with the relationships and pressures behind the music.
The title comes from the band’s song “The Chain.” Apple links the premiere to the fiftieth anniversary of Rumours, giving the documentary a clear occasion without presenting it as a new concert film.
An authorized account, not the first screen portrait
Pitchfork’s separate report confirms the title, director and January release. It also notes earlier screen accounts of the band, including the BBC’s Don’t Stop. “Authorized” should therefore not be confused with the first documentary ever made about Fleetwood Mac.
For film audiences, that distinction matters. A participant-led account offers one route into a story; earlier documentaries can offer useful comparisons. Whether the new film challenges familiar versions of events will be something to assess after release, not a verdict to announce from a press statement.
Where and when to watch
The announced destination is Apple TV, with a January 29, 2027 premiere. This is a release-date report, not a review of the finished documentary. See Apple’s full announcement for the confirmed details.
